The Burden of Preventable Illnesses in Liberia
Liberia’s healthcare crisis is exacerbated by the prevalence of preventable illnesses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 70% of the country’s disease burden can be mitigated through timely and effective interventions. Malaria, typhoid fever, respiratory infections, and diarrheal diseases are among the most pressing health challenges.

Leading cause of death, accounting for nearly 50% of outpatient consultations and 33% of inpatient deaths.
Maternal Mortality
661 deaths per 100,000 live births, among the highest in the world.
Chronic Diseases
Rising rates of hypertension, diabetes, and other conditions often go undetected until life-threatening.
Malnutrition
Nearly 15% of Liberian children suffer from acute malnutrition, leading to stunted growth and developmental delays.
